Letter to Applicants

Dear Ski Patrol Applicant,

The Cody St. John Foundation is happy to announce we are accepting applications from professional Ski Patrollers for scholarship awards for medical education! This can include, but is not limited to: CNA, First Aid Training, EMT, LPN, RN. The Foundation hopes to grant at least 5 scholarships of up to $1000.00 each, depending on the cost of the program.

The Cody St. John Foundation was established to honor the life and memories of Cody St. John, a professional Ski Patroller at Steamboat Ski Resort in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. In 2006, Cody was honored as “Ski Patroller of the Year” for the state of Colorado because of his exceptional talent, devotion, character, and spirit of service. To this day, Cody is the youngest person and only full-time snowboarder to have ever received this prestigious honor.

On April 8, 2007, Cody tragically passed away due to injuries suffered in a car accident. At the time of the accident, Cody was on his way to attend his orientation for nursing school at the University of Wyoming. The outpouring of love and respect for this remarkable young man inspired his family and friends to create and establish The Cody St. John Foundation, a non-profit organization with a 501(c)(3) recognition. The mission of the Foundation is to assist professional Ski Patrollers in furthering their medical education by granting meaningful scholarships to qualified applicants.

For the past few years, The Cody St. John Foundation has teamed with the Steamboat Ski Patrollers, Steamboat Ski Resort, and the US Forest Service to host “Cody’s Challenge”, a randonee race on Mt. Werner in Steamboat, Colorado. The energy around Cody’s Challenge has gained rapid momentum with Olympic and local participants, as well as support from the local media and other major sponsors. Powder Magazine highlighted Cody’s Challenge in November 2010 issue stating is the perfect event for all of us to share a day on the mountain in honor of Cody’s legacy. The winners of Cody’s Challenge and the scholarship recipients are publicly announced at the Randonee Awards Ceremony and after party.

The completed Scholarship Application along with one written recommendation will be due on or before March 1st. Please send to The Cody St. John Foundation at the address above. We will contact the winners by March 14th.
